Bedtime stories for ages 4-10

The words light up as the story is read aloud

TuneTales narrates gentle bedtime stories while each word glows in time with the voice. Children follow along, recognise words they know, and drift off with a story rather than a screen full of noise.

Free to start · 1 premium story a day on the free plan · No adverts, on any plan

The TuneTales player on an iPhone. A watercolour of a rabbit at a garden gate sits above the sentence being narrated, with the word "Flopsy" picked out in lilac as the narrator speaks it.

One word at a time, in step with the voice

As the narrator reads, the word being spoken turns lilac and the rest of the sentence waits. A child who cannot read yet still gets the whole story; a child who is starting to read gets to watch the words arrive.

It works on downloaded stories too, because the timing is saved alongside the audio.

The Tortoise and the Hare

She was slow. But she was slow the whole way, which turns out to be a very different thing.

Made for the last twenty minutes of the day

  • Words that light up as they are read

Each word glows the moment the narrator says it, so a child can follow the line with their eyes instead of guessing where the voice has got to.

  • Four narrators, so the voice suits the night

Pip is playful and bright, Willow is gentle and calm, Sunny is warm and cosy, and Grandpa Oak is slow and soothing. Every story is read by whichever one your child picks.

  • Downloads for aeroplanes and back seats

Save stories to the device and they play with no signal at all — on a plane, in a tunnel, or in a cottage with one bar.

  • Sleep mode that actually stops

The screen dims, the story finishes, and playback ends. Nothing autoplays into a second story at eleven at night.

  • A parental gate on anything that matters

Settings, purchases and account changes sit behind a PIN or Face ID, so a four-year-old exploring the app cannot get anywhere they should not.

  • No ads, no tracking, nothing to sell

There is no advertising in TuneTales and no analytics SDK watching your child. Their profile — name, age, avatar, interests — never leaves the device.

What we will never do

  • Show your child an advert

Not a banner, not a video, not an interstitial between chapters. There is no advertising in TuneTales at any tier.

  • Send their profile to a server

Their name, age, avatar and interests are stored on your device and nowhere else.

  • Autoplay the next story

A story ends and the app stops. Nothing keeps playing to hold attention past bedtime.

  • Sell or share data for marketing

We carry no analytics or advertising SDKs, so there is nothing to sell even if we wanted to.

The detail is in ourprivacy policy, in plain English.

Questions parents ask us

What age is TuneTales for?

It is built for children aged roughly four to ten. Four- and five-year-olds usually listen while an adult sits with them; by seven or eight most children are following the highlighted words on their own.

Does my child need to be able to read already?

No. The narration carries the story on its own, so a child who cannot yet read still gets the whole thing. The word highlighting is there for when they start to notice it, which happens sooner than most parents expect.

Is there anything to pay before we can try it?

No. TuneTales is free to start, and a free account unlocks one premium story a day. You can also listen as a guest without creating an account at all.

Are there adverts in the app?

None, on any plan. There is no advertising in TuneTales, no analytics SDK and no tracking. It is not a feature we are holding back for paying users — it simply does not exist in the app.

Can we listen without an internet connection?

Yes. Premium subscribers can download stories to the device, and downloaded stories keep their word highlighting because the timing data is saved alongside the audio.

What happens to my child’s information?

Their profile — first name, age, avatar, interests and narrator choice — is stored only on your device and is never sent to us. Our servers hold the parent account and the family library: favourites, progress, ratings and purchases.
